As For God - Elizabeth Weld Nolan

I’m here scratching my pumpkin patch
waiting for them to grow. I’ve got kids
to feed, cows to milk, clothes to sew.
An old-fashioned life. Rural, poor, but
OK. We’re OK. So far. As
for God, She’d better not come
around until She squares it with me.
I’m the one looking out for us
unless She decides to come on the job.
About time.

  1. There's such a fabulous voice in this one! This is a type of narrator you're really very good at portraying. I love the hard-headed weariness. I absolutely love the last line.
