This Is What Happened After - Elizabeth Weld Nolan

Dust fell into braided rows
Light shot through clouds of green
Birds fell into trees singing
Boats on the sea turned over and up
Until their masts pierced the sky
You opened the door
Hung up your hat
Whistling

  1. I love the way the subject matter and poetic form converge here - both of them going from wide to narrow, getting specific and more human until we have that last wonderful image of whistling. Really terrific!
