If I thought that staying drunk would help
I would try it.

clearly was not up to snuff as I
swayed erratically while standing in line at Starbucks –
The woman behind me thinking maybe
I was going to topple –
And even the teenagers
declined alcohol that evening.

You are so good at getting us the last line - and this one is no exception. I love this narrative voice that can move forward in time, know things the narrator can't really know. It's perfect!
