Checkmate - Donna Shomer

Checkmate

The damn washing machine
is sucking and spinning
outside my door
and it makes for crap silence.
- of which there is none -
This is probably
punishment for allowing
stories to atrophy -
for revoking wonder
and a sense of dreams.
For defending against music
because it opens what is closed.
Tricksy seductress silence –
always lurking
in the crevice between doing and hearing.

  1. I love the language in this. Crap silence. Tricksy seductress silence. You are so good at these juxtapositions. So good, I won't lecture you for only writing two things this week - they were just both so wonderful!
